My struggle with acne began in my teenage years and it didn’t stop when I reached my adulthood.
It was embarrassing and I kept using heavy foundation to cover my acne and post-acne scars. I was trying different skincare brands, brands that had word “natural” on their label, however, nothing seemed to be helping.
While studying toward the Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, I started researching ingredients, concluding that very likely that the ingredients used in products I have been using are preventing my skin from being healthy.
In my journey to heal my skin I learn about an alternative to mainstream synthetic skincare – natural skincare. I decided to learn how I can use plants derived ingredients combined with my knowledge of chemistry to create 100% naturally derived skincare products. Through my research I discovered that problems I struggled with are not unusual and I can help others to get healthier skin.
I acquired a certification as a Natural Skin Care Formulator, and I started my journey in the natural skincare world.
As I started testing my own products I noticed that my skin was responding positively. After a while, acne was gone, pigmentation caused by post-acne scars started to fade and now my skin is healthier than ever. I replaced a heavy foundation with 50 SPF sunscreen.
That is how Herbs&Butters Skincare was born.
My products result from in-depth research, experiments and testing. My products were tested for stability and microbiology to ensure that the products my products are safe to use, and the formulations are stable.
My efforts went into developing products for facial and body care to provide a natural skincare alternative for the entire body. Today I’m offering skincare products for facial care, body care, lip care hand and foot care. I keep enriching my knowledge about current trends in natural skincare and developing more products to provide you, my dear customer, with effective solutions for healthy skin.

About Natural Cosmetics
Environmental and personal awareness has been recently increasing. More people advocate for the protection of nature and environmental sustainability, consume organic foods and buy natural cosmetics. The popularity of plant-derived cosmetics originated from the desire to avoid applying synthetic chemical substances on our skin and also from the fact that plant and their extracts have been in use by our ancestors since prehistory. Due to this long tradition and safe use, such ingredients are added to various medicines and cosmetic products.
About Our Skin
Our skin consists of Epidermis, Dermis and Hypodermis layers. The Epidermis, which is in contact with the outside environment, is made of layers of dead or dying cells separated by layers of lipids. Its function is to create a waterproof barrier that seals in moisture to keep skin lubricated and protected against the outside environment. The lipids are made of fatty acids, waxes, etc.
The Dermis is a combination of protein fiber collagen and elastin. The moisture is retained in the collagen. It contributes to the plumpness, smoothness, elasticity of the skin.
The Hypodermis refers to the fat tissue below the dermis that insulates the body from cold temperatures and provides shock absorption. Fat cells of the hypodermis also store nutrients and energy.
Our body produces its own protective oil – a mixture of fatty acids from sebum, lactic acid and various amino acids from a sweat. As we get older, the production of these components decreases resulting in compromised protection layer, sagging skin formation of wrinkles, etc.
Diet, extreme weather, UV radiation and reactions caused by the use of harsh products on the skin affect the secretion of our protective oil causing dry, oily or a variety of skin complaints.
It is therefore important to look after our protective layer so that it can effectively protect the collagen and its moisture retaining properties.

About Our Ingredients
Plant-derived oils are made of chains of fatty acids, the very same that are present in the lipid barrier in the top layer of the skin.
The variations in the combinations of these fatty acids give the plant-derived oils their own specific values and characteristics.
Some oils are solid, such as cocoa butter, coconut, shea butter due to the high content of saturated fatty acids. Some are thick (olive, almond), others are light (hemp seed, grape seed and sunflower). They have a color and aroma of the seeds or nut they come from.
They are packed with fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, K, antioxidants, carotenoid, chlorophyll, lecithin… all that is necessary to feed our skin.
Oils contain the essential fatty acids - omega 3 & 6, that are not produced by the body but are necessary for our body and skin. Essential fatty acids are linked to everything from healthy hearts and joints to brain development and – of course - healthy skin.
Studies have shown that incorporation plant oils into your skincare routine provide a wide range of benefit to our skin, such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on the skin, promotion of wound healing and repair of the skin barrier.
